The Stanley Cup Final features a battle between towering teams Panthers and Oilers
The Florida Panthers and Edmonton Oilers are all set to clash in the Stanley Cup Final, determined to win the ultimate award and much different from each other in how they reached the final. This is a chance for the Panthers to earn their spot among the top NHL teams after the disappointing loss in the Finals last season. For the Oilers, with Connor McDavid leading the way, this chance could help the team end Canada’s 31-year wait for the Stanley Cup and shine in Edmonton once again.
The Path to the Final
Florida Panthers:
The Panthers have led their division due to strong offense backed by a tough defensive game plan coached by Paul Maurice. Following their division title, the Capitals thumped their way through the Eastern Conference by taking out the Tampa Bay Lightning, Boston Bruins and New York Rangers in close matches. The series’ success is greatly thanks to Aleksander Barkov, Matthew Tkachuk and goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky.
Bobrovsky has stood out by saving .925 shots on goal in the playoffs. Many of Florida’s penalties against Tampa Bay have been saved by Vezina thanks to his clutch saves and Tkachuk’s grit and talent have earned him a spot as a potential best player in the playoffs.
Edmonton Oilers:
Meanwhile, the Oilers have been determined from the first playoff game. Once Jay Woodcroft was terminated and Kris Knoblauch stepped in as the new head coach, the team’s performance improved during the second part of the regular season. McDavid, Draisaitl and Bouchard have scored and passed the puck at a high rate, while Skinner has played well and impressed his critics.
To make it to the Final, Edmonton won a tough series against the Vegas Golden Knights, had a big win over the Vancouver Canucks and beat the Dallas Stars in the Western Conference Final. Thanks to his incredible play, McDavid has 28 points in the playoffs and the Final could have a major impact on the superstar’s career.
